Follow the long and gently curving Golden Grove road and you’ll find a picturesque
mix of
TOBAGO COMMUNITY LIFE
. At either end, Tobago families reside, and in
the village of Canaan groceries, wine shops, pharmacies and bakeries rub shoulders with
entertainment options and places of worship. At the other end, Golden Grove meets
Shirvan road, and some of the finest white sand beaches in the Caribbean are within
minutes’ drive. Samaan Grove is located just about a third of the way in from Canaan.

Lot 3 on the left – and its

which is
extended even more by the lush foliage on the other side of its
boundary.
While it may be the smallest in terms of size of the four
model homes at Samaan Grove, the Crusoe
home puts every
bit to good use! In fact, the design brief to John Otway
dictated that if any space did not have a daily, practical use, it
should be eliminated!
The outside walls of Crusoe are ivy-covered – bringing Nature to the fore in
keeping with the eco-theme of the whole development. The ivy also gives this
cosy home a welcoming, lived-in feel. As with all the model homes there is an
automatic gate with external intercom systems connected to the kitchen. The
enclosed garbage shoot is next to the pedestrian gate at the entrance, so that
the waste service does not need to enter the property to retrieve the garbage.

Design consultant John Otway made the roof design a major attraction of this
cosy house by using natural wood shingles to complement the feel of the overall
development.
The
POOL PUMP ROOM
houses three 600 gallons
water tanks – two for the domestic supply and one for
the automatic sprinkler system. All the controls for the
pool and sprinkler system are here, as well as ample
storage for kayaks, snorkeling apparatus, bikes and
the myriad sports equipment so necessary to enjoy all
Tobago – and Samaan Grove – has to offer.
The front entrance to the home is actually located around the left side, and
reached via a picturesque slab path through a kaleidoscope of gorgeous
flowering shrubs.
THE INTERIOR
is designed by Susan Kenny. Pieces were
carefully selected to maximize the sense of space while ensuring that Crusoe
is comfortable and stylish. The cathedral ceilings are beamed, and the air
naturally circulates through the communal spaces. An LCD television and
dvd/cd player provide indoor entertainment in the living area, but it is the
appeal of the back garden and entertainment patio that are the real crowd
pleaser! They are, simply, magnificent!
THE BACK OF Crusoe
has a large entertainment area, accessed
through two large doors, which allow the living room to flow out onto
the pool deck area. one of the unique features of this space is the use
of “coppers”, one of which was actually placed in the pool!
COPPERS
were used to water livestock in the 18th and 19th centuries, and have
now become prized features of the most elegant Caribbean homes.
