Waterfalls in Tobago: From Two-Minute Walks to Hour-Long Hikes
Tobago is known for its beaches, snorkelling, diving, and ocean adventures—but the island also has beautiful waterfalls to explore. From easy roadside stops to longer rainforest hikes, visiting a waterfall is a wonderful way to add nature and adventure to your Tobago villa holiday.
Depending on where you are staying, many of these waterfalls are easy to reach by car from your villa. Here are a few of Tobago’s most accessible falls, along with a couple for visitors looking for a more adventurous day out.
Green Hill Waterfall
Green Hill Waterfall is a scenic option for visitors who want very little walking. From many villas in south-west Tobago, it is roughly a 40-minute drive. You can park near the roadside, walk down a short set of steps, and view the waterfall within a minute or two.
Reaching the water below, or exploring the falls to the right, is more challenging. The rocks can be slippery and uneven, so it is best for confident, adventurous visitors. However, it remains one of the easiest waterfalls in Tobago to see.
Argyle Falls
Argyle Falls is Tobago’s best-known waterfall and a favourite for visitors. It has parking, washroom facilities, and a clear walking trail leading through the forest to the falls.
The waterfall has three levels, and the lower pool is the easiest area to enjoy. Reaching the higher levels is more difficult and should only be attempted carefully. There is an entrance fee, and local guides are available; it is always worth checking current arrangements before you visit.
For guests staying in a Tobago villa, Argyle Falls makes a great half-day trip—especially when combined with a drive through the island’s beautiful east coast.
Castara Waterfall and Parlatuvier Waterfall
Castara Waterfall and Parlatuvier Waterfall are both easy to find within their respective villages. From the south-west of Tobago, allow approximately one hour to Castara and up to an hour and a half to Parlatuvier, depending on traffic and your villa location.
Both falls are less than a 10-minute walk from parking and are lovely, easy places to visit. They are ideal for guests who want to combine a waterfall stop with a beach day, lunch in a village, or a drive along Tobago’s spectacular north coast.
Highland Waterfall
Highland Waterfall is a more adventurous option. The drive is approximately 30 minutes from some villa locations, but the hike to the falls takes around an hour.
Because parking can be difficult and the walk is longer, a knowledgeable local guide is recommended. The reward is a peaceful rainforest experience and one of Tobago’s more secluded waterfalls.
Waterfall Bay, Charlotteville
Waterfall Bay is located in Man O’ War Bay, near Charlotteville. This is one for the more adventurous visitor, as it is reached by boat, kayak, or stand-up paddleboard. Once you arrive, there is a river hike over slippery rocks to reach the falls.
The hike is intermediate in difficulty, but there is a small waterfall and pool where you can cool off. It is a memorable way to experience a quieter side of Tobago.
You can visit this area on Stand Up Paddle Tobago’s Full Day Adventure Tour, which combines paddling, hidden waterfalls, and other scenic locations around the island.
